[Manu Luksch] & [Mukul Patel] ambientTV - "Locative Ambivalence"

Artists Presentation:
‘We have demonstrated the ability to selectively deny GPS signals on a regional basis, particularly when our national security is threatened.’ (Lt. Jeremy Eggers, 50th Space Wing, Schriever AFB, Colorado)
Manu and Mukul of ambientTV.NET will talk about the ambivalences of location-aware connectivity by showcasing ambientTV.NET's series of networked portable-media works. The narrative and technical framework for their latest production, MYRIORAMA, was developed through a series of works-in-progress: flipflop (wearable PC, real-time video and audio manipulation and movement studies), TRyPTiCHON 1.0 (which attempted an emotional mapping using GPS/mobile phones) and TRyPTiCHON 2.0 (dealing with a roamer's perception of space And its interpretation through dance). MYRIORAMA (in collaboration with kondition pluriel) explores position- And motion-tracking at widely different scales: across the city, and inside. The venue. This dance piece uses locative media to tell the story of an all powerful king who turns paranoid. Bio:
ambientTV.NET is a crucible for independent, interdisciplinary practice ranging from installation and performance, through documentary, dance, and gastronomy, to sound and video composition and real-time manipulation. We continue to develop social and technical infrastructure and promote network architectures that facilitate alternatives to current socio-political and economic formations. Techniques and effects of live data broadcasting and transmission provide theme, medium, and performative space for many of the works.
